The Haswell-E processors won't be a major shift in architecture, so it can be easy to overlook them - but Intel are making sure this improved line of Haswells will be worth it.

These new processors will carry up to 8 CPU cores for the first time, along with up to 20MB of L3 cache...

Just like all other Intel processors, these will also have Hyper Threading technology, which means up to 16 logical cores. This high grade performance will obviously need more power than the current Haswells, and the TDP value of these processors will range from 130W to 140W; not much more than the current 6 core Haswells. This processor will still use the Haswell 22nm fabrication.

it is being claimed that these processors will provide around 50% better performance in best case scenarios over Haswell. The Haswell-E line will work on a brand new chipset named Wellsburg, and need a new socket along with it. This chipset will provide support for DDR 4 memory up to 2133MHz, which can be further overclocked

HASWELL-E PROCESSORS TO BOAST AN 8 CORE MONSTER CPU

Some of the other major features of Wellsburg X-PCH include:

- Support for up to six USB 3.0 ports

- Support for up to eight USB 2.0 ports

- Support for up to ten SATA 6GB/s ports

- Support for Integrated Clock

- All this at a TDP value of 6.5 Watts

The Haswell-E CPUs will require a new variation on the LGA 2011 socket, named the LGA 2011-3. Almost all the details  of the socket are identical to the LGA 2011, although it is being suggested that this new design will provide more efficiency to the processor.

Talking about the DDR4 RAM modules, they will come in 1333 MHz, 1600 MHz, 1866 MHz and of course 2133MHz variants. These will have four channels, which will provide almost 50% more bandwidth than previous triple-channel models. There have also been some changes in the DIMM connector, which will now have 288 pins instead of 284 pins. The increase of 4 pins is done to support NVDIMM modules. It is being said that 288 pins/284 pins module will be able to use each others channels without issues.
